The school Sosekido (素石堂) was formed by my sensei, Unkotsu Komine (小峰雲骨) many years ago. I was 13 years old when I first met him, and it was the beginning of my long-time calligraphy path.

Happy New Year of the Dragon

Happy New Year 2024!
How was you 2023?
What would you like to change to have a better year in 2024?

For me, the word of the year is Jushin, the centre of gravity. The world is very unstable and it’s hard to foresee even our own future. It feels like we walk daily as if we are looking for the centre of gravity in order to maintain the internal balance.

2024 is a year of dragon, specifically a wood dragon. In Japanese, it’s called Kinoe Tatsu (甲辰). What year could be?

represent a big tree that grows straight up. The dragon is the only animal among 12 Chinese zodiac animals and people often worshipped dragon as a god of water or ocean. It is also as symbol of the dynamic of the nature. Therefore, people believed that the dragon would bring a good fortune.

I wish you all a growing year with lots of fortune in 2024.
