Calligraphy and Dance Event in Berlin “UMU – Give Light -“
Performance UMU – DAR LA LUZ – was very successful in Madrid. Now the same workpiece will come to Berlin. UMU -Give Light- will be performed. This is a collaboration of Boto-like mysterous dance and calligraphy inspired by a Buddhist monk, Ippen who formed Odori nenbutsu (踊り念仏), dance while praying. He also opened Buddhism to everyone, not only the noble people and samurai but also to the poor people and especially to women. His principle was respect to the nature. The performance UMU -Give Light – is the very first project, kotonoha (言の葉/ Leaves of words) of the dancer Makiko Sese and I that we like to make this as a series of workpieces.
For Berlin, we have invited a cellist, Hui-Chun Lin who is specialised in improvised and experimental music which will fit very well to our performance. It will be very different from the Madrid performance led by the Shakuhachi sound, which gave it veyr ritual feeling.
We are looking forward to seeing you there!
