Sosekido

The school Sosekido (素石堂) was formed by my sensei, Unkotsu Komine (小峰雲骨) many years ago. I was 13 years old when I first met him, and it was the beginning of my long-time calligraphy path.

Japanisches Sommerfest in 2013 – Thank you for comming

The 15th of June, unlike the last year, it was a warm sunny day. All my works arrived at the club house where the Japanisches Sommerfest 2013 was held. This year, I was upstairs where more tables were.

This is my table this year.

My neighbour was a girl who sold Shibori hand towels. They were pretty and she had many people asking her the method all the time. I was one of them. She was kind enough to explain to me after hundreds times.

“Ihr Name in Japanisch”, your name in Japanese.

I know many westerners want their name in Kanji but I prefer to write in Hiragana.

Hiragana and Katakana are phonetic and since western names don´t change in Japanese and we just pronounce what you say, I think it´s more appropriate to write them in Hiragana.

I had some works framed.

People seemed to like framed work more than unframed. I guess it´s easier to imagine how it would be hanging in their house wall.

Although the program said “demonstration”, I didn´t have a particular performance programmed this day. My demonstration was to write names and some words they liked.

But some visitors did ask me about the demonstration, so I started writing some ancient songs such as Haiku or Tanka. I even wrote some part of Makura no Soushi (枕草子/ The Pillow Book) by Seisho Nagon (清少納言).

People came to exhibit were nice. The organiser came with Onigiri but she came hiding behind her back. I guess she didn´t have it for everyone. Sweet.

I had a good day and enjoy being there.

Thank to Deutsch-Japanische Gesellschaft Berlin who invited me to exhibit there.
