Sosekido

The school Sosekido (素石堂) was formed by my sensei, Unkotsu Komine (小峰雲骨) many years ago. I was 13 years old when I first met him, and it was the beginning of my long-time calligraphy path.

Calligraphy workshop with primary school children in Berlin 1

Recently I had a proposal by Kalli san who is one of the main members of Go association in Berlin for calligraphy workshops in the public schools. I was a little worried because my German is rather terrible but since Kalli san told me that he would accompany with me, I agreed.

Two weeks ago, we went to the first school, Fichtelgebirge Grundschule in Kreuzberg, the south part of Berlin. It was the 5th grade students and many spoke good English. They were very excited to have a Japanese calligraphy and what´s more, they were very shocked to hear Japanese language.

The class started with a little history about Japanese calligraphy and the language system. The children had a lot of questions and I started to worry if we would have enough time to write. But finally it began.

How to dip the brush into the ink.

Some ink spill can happen.

Some disaster can also happen.

Let´s move on.

Time for the final work.

Don´t forget to sign.
